Play Therapy
“Play is a child's natural medium for self-expression”
Virginia Axline
Play Therapy is a type of therapy where play and art materials are used as the main way for children to express themselves.
Play Therapy is a helpful approach for children aged between 4 and 15 years old in need of therapeutic support. Since it might be hard for children to use words to describe their thoughts and feelings, these can be explored, communicated, and resolved using the various media present in the playroom, including:
Puppets
Clay
Sand tray and symbols
Movement and Music
Dollhouse
Role-Play
Arts and crafts
Therapeutic stories
Drawing and painting
Games and boardgames
My therapeutic approach
My work follows an integrative and holistic approach.
It is non-directive and child-centred, which means the child takes the lead during the sessions and their therapeutic journey - nothing is rushed or imposed.
I also take into account the child as a whole, including their body, mind, development, individuality, and context, as well as a variety of theoretical perspectives and therapeutic approaches, to guide my understanding and support of the child’s needs.
I am a trainee Play Therapist registered at Play Therapy UK, currently conducting therapeutic play in a Primary School in North London as part of my training.
